7 Things You Do that Are Ruining Your Hair

"There are a lot of things you do on a daily basis that can wreak havoc on your hair," says celebrity stylist Harry Josh, who tends to the hair of Gisele, Rose Byrne, and a ton of other A-listers.
According to Josh, here's what you might be doing that is totally trashing your hair:
1. Trying to bleach your hair yourself.
"If you're trying to do ombré look or give yourself highlights at home, and your hair comes out looking more yellow than what you were going for, call your stylist," he says. "If you go out and buy another box, thinking you're going to give it another go, think again. You could end up frying off your hair and making it fall out in the end, which would be terrbile and unfixable."
2. Using a hair tie that rips your hair out.
"You might still be using an elastic with the metal fasteners that hold the hair tie together, or god forbit an office rubberband to put your hair up, but these types of hair binders will only rip out your hair when you try to take them out," Josh says. "Instead, get one that is made entirely out of fabric or one that isn't held together with a small metal piece. And NEVER use an office rubberband to pull your hair up - they're your hair's worst enemy." Try Emi Jay Hair Ties
3. Pulling your hair up in the same ponytail position.
"If you normally put your hair in a ponytail in the exact same spot every day, you can actually cause surface breakage in that area," he says. "What happens over time is that your hair will start to get weaker and break off in that spot and you'll be left with a bunch of flyaways you'll have to spray back with hair spray." To avoid this strand situation, change up your ponytail placement so you don't wear out your hair at the crown of your head, for example.

4. Copying ballerinas and pulling your hair back too tightly.
"Over time this can cause breakage to the hairline, since you're essentially putting a lot of tension on your hair at the root," he explains. "If you have a frail hairline, opt for looser styles that don't give an instant facelift as soon as you pull it back."
5. Skipping heat protectant products when you style.
"These types of products nourish as they style and put a barrier between the plates of the hot tool and your inner core of your hair shaft that keeps it strong," says Josh. "Some even contain UV filters, which help shield UV rays from sun damage that makes your hair porous, which makes it feel rough and look dry." Try John Frieda Frizz-Ease Heat Defeat Protective Styling Spray.
6. Brushing your hair with boar bristle brush when it's wet.
"You always want to use a paddle brush or wide-tooth comb when you're trying to detangle your hair after you shower," Josh warns. "Go for one with bristles set far apart; otherwise, using a boar bristle brush will yank your hair out since it's bristles are so close together."
7. Never brushing your hair.
"Brushing your hair invigorates the blood in your scalp, bringing it to the follicle," he says. "And the healthier the follicle is, the healthier and more lustrous your hair will look."

When to apply lotion

It is no surprise that the winter months can play havoc on the skin. The combination of wood heat and/or other home heating sources causes your home to have relatively low humidity, thus leaving your skin flaky and with dry itchy patches. Dry itchy skin patches can be bothersome and unsightly and, left untreated, can lead to broken skin and even infection. Therefore, it is necessary to hydrate and moisturize the skin as much as possible.
Below are a few tips to ward off dry flaky skin and eliminate dry skin patches:
1. Know your skin type! If you have oily skin, consider a humectant moisturizer. These types of moisturizers are water based and have very few oils in them. They will prevent dry skin from cracking by increasing the skin's natural pliability. Look for ingredients such as glycerin and lactic acid.
For those with dry skin consider a moisturizer that traps in the natural moisture in the underlying layers of the skin. These types of moisturizers are called occlusive moisturizers and contain ingredients such as petroleum, mineral oils and/or silicone. My skin is dry and sensitive, so for an allover body lotion I use a fragrance free lotion such as Eucerin. To cure the dry skin patches that occasionally pop up I use a little jojoba oil on the area.
2. Selecting the right cleanser for your skin type is also critical to fight off dry skin. A foaming body wash is more drying than a lotion-type body wash. So if you like the suds use sparingly. I like my Olay body wash, it leaves my skin feeling clean and does not dry it out. If your body wash leaves your skin feeling tight and "squeaky clean," chances are you are stripping your skin of its natural oils.
3. The best time to moisturize is right after a shower while the skin is still damp. I always moisturize after a shower and then apply a little more before I go to bed at night.
4. Exfoliation is also helpful. It sloughs off dead skin cells and improves the absorption of your moisturizer. Once a week I will add a little cornmeal to my body wash and it does a wonderful job of exfoliation. It is also eco-friendly and inexpensive.
5. We read a lot of articles on moisturizing and cleansing and most articles focus on the face. The neck and décolleté area (aka V zone) really needs attention, too. The skin in these areas is very thin and is very prone to sun damage and wrinkles. When applying your moisturizer do not neglect this area.
That is my skin care regimen to fight off dry skin and dry patches. Because I burn wood all winter long, I notice that when I skip my moisturizing routine it doesn't take long for the dry patches and flaky skin to appear.
Are there any extra steps you take to care for your skin during the winter months? I would love to hear them.

Ten Tips To Help You Control Your High Blood Pressure,And 10 Common Habits That Damage the Kidneys~

1. Make sure your blood pressure is under 140/90 mm Hg. If your systolic pressure (the top number) is over 140, ask your doctor what you can do to lower it.

2. Take your high blood pressure medicine, if prescribed, every day. If you have questions, talk to your doctor.

3. Aim for a healthy weight. If you are overweight or obese, carrying this extra weight increases your risk of high blood pressure. One way to determine if you need to lose weight is to find out your body mass index or BMI. If your BMI is above the healthy range (i.e., 25 or greater), or if your waist measurement is greater than 35 inches (women) or 40 inches (men) you probably have excess abdominal weight and you may benefit from weight loss especially if you have other risk factors. Talk to your doctor to see if you are at increased risk for high blood pressure and need to lose weight.

4. Increase your physical activity. Do at least 30 minutes of moderate activity, such as walking, most days of the week. You can do 30 minutes in three 10-minute segments.

5. Choose foods low in salt and sodium. Most Americans should consume no more than 2.4 grams (2,400 milligrams) of sodium a day. That equals 6 grams, about one teaspoon of table salt a day. For someone with high blood pressure, the doctor may advise less.

6. Read nutrition labels. Almost all packaged foods contain sodium. Every time you prepare or eat a packaged food, know how much sodium is in one serving.

7. Keep a sodium diary. You may be surprised at how much sodium you consume each day and the diary will help you decide which foods to decrease or eliminate.

8. Use spices and herbs instead of salt to season the food you prepare at home.

9. Eat more fruits, vegetables, grains, and low-fat dairy foods.

10. If you consume alcohol at all, consume moderate amount or restrict...

Benefits of eating fruits

It's not as easy as you think.
It's important to know how and when to eat.

DON'T EAT FRUIT AFTER MEALS!

FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

It will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil....

Eat fruit on an empty stomach or before meals! People complain, "Every time I eat watermelon I burp; when I eat apples, my stomach bloats up; when I eat a banana🍌 I feel like running to the toilet, etc ” This will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. Fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas, hence you will bloat!

Gray hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under eyes will NOT happen by taking fruit on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon 🍋are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. Master the correct way of eating fruits, and you will have beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

Drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

Eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

KIWI: 🍈A good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE: Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: .. have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE : Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessening the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. A key source of lycopene the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: 🍈 for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; good for your eyes.

Drinking Cold water after meals = Cancer!

It will solidify the oily stuff you have just consumed and slow down digestion... Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. This will turn into fats and lead to cancer. Better to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE': Not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of pain in the jaw line. You may never have chest pain during a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are common symptoms. Sixty percent who have an attack while asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can awaken you.

Tips to beat acidity

Are your eating habits irregular? Do you eat out a lot? Do you love spicy food? And have you been experiencing burning sensations in the throat, gas formation, sour taste in your mouth and fatigue? Chances are that you are suffering from acidity.

What causes acidity?

Acidity is caused when the digestive juices produced in our stomach are not utilised completely. In fact the acid helps digest food we eat. However, when there isn’t enough food for digestion or if there is an over production of this acid, you will experience acidity pangs.
In addition, acidity may also be due to eating a meal filled with either sugar or spices, stress, lack of exercise or long gaps between two meals. In most cases, the main trigger for acidity is the food we eat and our eating habits.
Though acidity is one of the most common problems faced by most of us, preventing acidity from occurring is very simple. Here are a few tricks which will help you beat acidity!

Eat at regular intervals

Always eat in small portions. Instead of one heavy breakfast, break it down into two portions and eat it at two-hour intervals. This way, your stomach is neither too full nor completely empty.

Fruits and veggies

Eat a lot of fruits, vegetables and whole wheat grains as this will increase the amount of fibre you consume. The fibre in your food will absorb the extra acid produced in your stomach and also discard it out of your body. Fruits such as bananas, papayas, cucumbers and watermelons go a long way in relieving acidity. Also, dry fruits like raisins, dried figs and almonds help in easing heartburns and the burning sensation in your stomach. Eat more vegetables like drumsticks, beans, pumpkin, cabbage, carrot and spring onions.

Drink water

Drink warm water first thing in the morning. This is said to flush out the excess acid which gets accumulated in your stomach through the night. In addition, drinking tender coconut water three times a day will also help you fight acidity.

Stay Hydrated, Stay Healthy

BALANCE BODY FLUIDSWater accounts for two-thirds of body weight and the brain alone is 73 % water. Water aids all bodily functions - digestion, absorption, circulation, brain function, nerve ...more

Sip milk

If you are suffering from acidity, sip cold milk frequently as milk is an acidity buster and it helps in stabilizing the gastric acids. But, do not think eating ice cream is as same as drinking cold milk. Actually the cream and sugar in the ice cream will just aggravate the acidity.

Chew on tulsi

When you are suffering from heartburns, pop in a few tulsi leaves and chew on them for a while. This can give you instant relief. Also, mint leaves are said to be equally effective. Boil mint leaves in a bowl of water and sip it frequently. This too helps relieve you from acidity.

Aniseed/sauf

Now you know the reason behind the sauf served in restaurants. It not just helps in digestion but is also great for those suffering from acidity. For best results, soak one teaspoon of sauf in one cup of boiled water overnight. Strain this water, add a teaspoon of honey to it and sip on it through the day.

Chew gum

Chewing sugarless gum is said to help in reducing heartburn. Chewing gum produces more saliva, and the alkaline properties in the saliva neutralise the acid.
In addition to above tips:
  • Try and avoid eating out often, eating fatty, oily food and too many chocolates.
  • Exercise for at least 30 minutes every day.
  • Say a big ‘NO’ to cigarettes!
  • Use an extra pillow while lying down, so that your head is slightly elevated. The elevated position helps the acid to remain inside the stomach, instead of moving into the esophagus.
  • Make sure that you have dinner at least two hours before your bedtime as this helps keep acidity at bay.

AMAZING HEALTH BENEFITS OF WHEAT GRASS.
Wheatgrass is a food prepared from the cotyledons of the common wheat plant, Triticum aestivum. It is sold either as a juice or powder concentrate. Wheatgrass differs from wheat malt in that it is served freeze-dried or fresh, while wheat malt is convectively dried.
Wheatgrass is allowed to grow longer than malt. Like most plants, it contains chlorophyll, amino acids, minerals, vitamins, and enzymes.

• Wheatgrass possesses great energizing potential. Two ounces of wheatgrass juice is found to have the same vitamins and minerals content as that of 3 pounds of organic vegetables, or two cups of coffee.

• Wheatgrass juice also carries some of the most essential nutrients. It is a rich source of vital minerals like zinc, iron, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, sodium, sulphur, calcium and cobalt. Wheatgrass juice has around 70% chlorophyll. This chlorophyll gets converted into hemoglobin which then boosts the red blood cells count. This, in turn, increases the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood which ensures that all the body parts get adequate quantity of oxygen and nutrients. It is also found to be advantageous in case of fluctuating blood pressure.

• Wheatgrass is also high in proteins and contains several enzymes. Some of the essential enzymes that are found in wheatgrass are; Protease, which is beneficial in protein digestion; Cytochrome Oxidase, which is an anti-oxidant; and Amylase, which is effective in boosting the digestive process. In addition to these, it also contains amino-acids like Lipase, Transhydrogenase, which are crucial for the strength of the heart muscles as well as Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), highly critical for healing the damage caused by sun’s radiation.

• Wheatgrass is rich in Vitamin B, C, E and carotene. All of these are highly efficacious in wiping out free radicals from the body. With sufficient saponin content, wheatgrass also boosts the lymphatic system of the body. Being anti-bacterial, it detoxifies the body by flushing away deleterious toxins from the body cells. It is also capable of crushing the hardened mucous. Drink wheatgrass juice on empty stomach to keep your organs feeling fresh and rejuvenated. To gain the maximum benefits, try to include it in your regular diet.

• Amino acids, also referred to as the ‘building blocks of protein’, are found in high quantity in wheatgrass. Amino acids are crucial for human growth and reproduction of the cells within the body. Amino acids such as arginine, serine, absenisic, lysine, aspartic acid, glycine, alanine, methionine, leucine, tryptophane, phenylalanine and valine etc., are found in wheatgrass in adequate quantities. Thus, it is extremely essential for fitness enthusiasts to include wheatgrass powder or juice in their daily diet.

• When applied externally, wheatgrass can offer relief from itching in no time. It has also been proven to be effective as a disinfectant and restores natural colour to sun-burnt skin. Wheatgrass can be beneficial in combating hair related discrepancies also and can soothe itchy and scaly scalp. Rub wheatgrass on your scalp and see the benefits. Moreover, Wheatgrass is also efficacious in healing burns, scrapes, rashes, cuts, poison ivy infection, insect bites, boils, athlete's foot, sores and open ulcers.

• It is also effective in restoring the alkalinity of the blood. As it is rich in alkaline minerals, it helps in curbing the acid content of the blood. Consumption of wheatgrass also heals internal pains. Wheatgrass is widely used for the treatment of peptic ulcers, constipation, ulcerative colitis and diarrhea.

• Consumption of wheatgrass can even slow down the process of aging. It tightens up loose skin. It contributes towards making your nervous system stronger and increases mental clarity and also contributes towards improving eyesight.

• Did you know that wheatgrass can create a healthy atmosphere around you? All you need is some land or pots around you to place wheatgrass in; it purifies the air around you and offers you the benefits of a healthy life.
